About SEED
SEED exists to affect the state of the environment and to support progressive environmental movements at Northwestern. SEED's activities include large-scale event programming such as speakers, concerts and debates. Service is also important to SEED. Members participate in campus recycling improvement efforts, prairie restoration work, and on-campus environmental education. SEED is always eager to hear new ideas and take on new projects, and encourages anyone with an interest in the environment to join.

SEED promotes concern for the planet in community decisions and in daily life, through both education and action. SEED is a student organization that exists to educate, research, and do service work to affect the state of the environment and to support progressive environmental movements and directions.

Updates Coming Soon!

Prairie Project: Guided by longtime, highly knowledgeable site stewards, and in coordination with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County (www.northbranchrestoration.org), we'll be cutting invasive brush with bow saws and loppers (provided) to ensure that native flowers, trees, and all the species that depend on them can thrive in their natural habitat. We'll throw the brush into a big bonfire, have snacks, and enjoy being outside! Trips take place every weekend - either Saturday or Sunday. We love having new volunteers! If you think you'd like to get involved, would like to join the listserv, or would just like more information email Eileen, eileen.penner@gmail.com or Beth, beth.sturgeon@gmail.com.

Off Campus Recycling Project

This is a program being set up in response to the lack of recycling services for many of the apartments around campus. SEED will set up recycling bins near the garbage collection sites at various apartment complexes (to be named later) around the NU campus. Every two weeks, the recyclables will be picked up and transferred to the Evanston recycling center. This service is free and student run, and will aim at spreading the message and availability of recycling to off-campus students. For more information or to help organize our efforts, contact Liz Hohl, e-hohl@northwestern.edu.

Green Cup

The Green Cup is an energy and water-saving competition between residence halls at Northwestern University. The residence hall that can reduce their use of water and energy the most in a 2-week period will win a prize--a pizza and ice cream party sponsored by Lou Malnati's and Ben and Jerry's Evanston, a green cup trophy, and, of course, bragging rights!

Upcoming Projects

Philfest is Seed's annual music benefit concert, held in honor of the late Phil Semmer, a former Northwestern student who loved the environment and music. While the concert is free, Philfest collects donations for Rocky Mountain Institute, an environmental organization and think tank based out of Colorado.
