Our Mission:
To increase the Kellogg community’s awareness of environmentally sustainable opportunities and careers in business. To continually encourage, implement, and improve environmentally sustainable practices at Kellogg.
History
During the 2006-07 academic year, several students from KSA and Social Impact interested in greening issues formed the Kellogg Greening Initiative (KGI). KGI members worked with the faculty and administration to make changes to lessen Kellogg's environmental impact, including additional recycling bins throughout Jacobs and collaborating with KIS to switch to double-sided printing. These changes alone resulted in a 20% increase in the volume of recycled cans, bottles, and paper, as well as an expected 25% reduction in our annual paper use.
In the fall of 2007, many more students became involved in the work of KGI. Additionally, a group of students came to KGI with an interest in learning more about sustainability in the business world and careers in the field. To reflect the broader mandate of the club, KGI changed its name to the Environmental Sustainability Business Club.
Key Accomplishments:
Introducing carbon offset option for KWEST, ski trip and GIM
Recycling and energy audits of the Kellogg building
Introduction of double-sided printing
Helping clubs and large events reduce environmental impact
Our focus areas include:
Education: Increase awareness in the Kellogg community of environmental issues and their impact on business by providing expert perspectives.
Career: Provide resources for members interested in environmental careers through collaboration with current students, the CMC, and the alumni network.
Implementation: Encourage, implement, and improve environmentally sustainable practices at Kellogg
