About The Student Organization for Sustainability (SOS)
Our goals are several and include educating the general student population about environmental issues, promoting sustainable practices on campus and as individuals, promoting social justice, volunteering on campus and in the broader community, and combating apathy by engaging students in discussion and events.

Current Activities:
We recently put on a screening of "The 11th Hour", a documentary featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and several prominent scientists about the state of the global environment. It was well attended despite rescheduling the event due to a school closure. We are also planning a series of events centered around Earth Day titled "Celebrate the Earth!". We have scheduled several speakers from organizations across the region such as Illinois Audubon, Missouri Wilderness Coalition, SIUE's Green Roof Project, and The Earthways Center as well as the nationally-known speaker Derrick Jensen. SOS is also planning a campus-wide trash pick-up and bike ride to promote awareness for "Celebrate the Earth!". Since the formation of SOS, SIUE has recognized the need for environmental action on campus and has recently taken steps to address environmental issues as never before.
